When should I replace my main water line?

Several factors indicate it's time for replacement: if your system is 50-70 years old (homes built before 1970 with original piping), if you have frequent breaks requiring multiple repair calls, persistent water quality issues like rusty water or metallic taste, or low water pressure problems throughout your home despite repairs. If your line is undersized for current needs, replacement may also be necessary.

What are the warning signs my water line needs replacement?

Watch for consistent water discoloration that doesn't clear up after running taps, unexplained water bill increases indicating hidden leaks, soggy yard areas or unusually green patches near the street connection, multiple repair calls in recent years, and if neighbors with homes built around the same time are replacing their main lines.

What is trenchless water line replacement?

We offer advanced trenchless replacement methods that minimize property disruption. Pipe bursting technology breaks apart the old pipe while simultaneously pulling in new piping, eliminating most excavation work. Horizontal directional drilling is perfect for crossing driveways, sidewalks, or landscaped areas without damage. Both methods significantly reduce the need for extensive landscape restoration and pavement repair.

How long do water main lines last?

Most main water lines last 50-70 years. If your home was built before 1970 and still has original piping, replacement is likely more cost-effective than ongoing repairs. Modern pipes with proper installation resist corrosion and last 50+ years.

What is your water line replacement process?

Our systematic approach includes initial assessment where we evaluate your current system and test water quality, permit coordination handling all permits and utility company coordination, professional installation using excavation and pipe fusion equipment, and testing and restoration where we work with water quality testing labs to verify your new system and complete landscape restoration.

Do you handle permits for water line replacement?

Yes, we handle all permits needed for main water line replacement and coordinate with utility companies to ensure proper shutoffs and connections. We work closely with city inspectors to ensure your new main water pipe replacement meets all local codes and standards.

What materials do you use for water line replacement?

We use only the highest quality materials including durable pipe materials that resist corrosion and last 50+ years with proper installation. We use advanced fusion technology with pipe fusion equipment that creates seamless, leak-proof connections, and specialized excavation equipment and trenching machines for precise, safe installation.

Will water line replacement damage my landscaping?

We offer trenchless methods including pipe bursting and horizontal directional drilling that significantly reduce the need for extensive landscape restoration and pavement repair after completion. For traditional excavation, we complete necessary landscape restoration and pavement repair as part of the service.

How does pipe bursting technology work?

Pipe bursting technology breaks apart the old pipe while simultaneously pulling in new piping, eliminating most excavation work. This method allows us to replace your water line with minimal disruption to your property, preserving landscaping and hardscaping.

Should I replace my water heater when replacing the main water line?

After completing main water line replacement, improved water pressure and flow make it an ideal time to upgrade your water heater. New main water lines provide the consistent water pressure and flow rate required for optimal tankless water heater performance, making this the perfect time to upgrade your hot water system.

Do you test water quality after replacement?

Yes, we work with water quality testing labs to verify your new system provides clean, safe water at proper pressure levels. Water quality testing is included as part of our comprehensive replacement service.

How much does main water line replacement cost?

Water line replacement costs vary based on length, depth, method used (traditional vs trenchless), and site conditions. We provide free assessments and detailed estimates. While replacement has upfront costs, it's often more economical than repeated repairs, especially for lines over 50 years old with multiple failures.
